YUM YUM YUM
I always love freshly made (comparing to packaged ones) pork jerky. My sis likes the beef jerky. Always Always.
After recent visit to Singapore and Taipei (Taiwan), I crave for these Asia snacks even more.
Went to preview couple apartments today in the area for buyers; walked by Ling Kee; of course I had to sample the pork jerky. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come and check them out yourselves:

SO GOOD!
We, Simply Fabulous, met up again!
SO GOOD!
We went to Shanghai Café (former Shanghai Gourmet) tonight to try soup buns. The soup buns there are freshly made daily; you can see how the chefs made them through the store front windows. It’s perfect thinkness of the skin, perfect amount of meat, perfect taste; and today, 17 of us have the perfect company of each other! YUMMY!

Have you visited TaiPan Bakery in Chinatown?
It’s a mad place anytime of the day. You do get run over from time to time :P The variety of breads taste the closest to home (Taipei, Taiwan) as I remembered. Anything from here always tastes fresh ~ Dan loves the traditional flaky egg custards; I love the egg custards in Portugese style, and many of the breads.
Lately, I do find more and more non-Asian faces shopping here. SO good that TaiPan Bakery has been discovered!
TaiPan Bakery (Chinatown) - 194 Canal Street

This is the place I have been going for many years to get my roast pork; once a while, also roast duck or chicken. This place was burned down years ago, and thank Goodness, it re-opened.
The butcher knows, to pick out my roast pork with a bit more burned edge.
Roast pork over white rice, with stir fried Chinese cabbage on the side - simply fabulous!

I am sort of Shanghainess.
Grandparents (both mom and dad’s sides) were all either born or educated in Shanghai and all speak Shanghainese. Too bad that I don’t, but I eat Shanghainese.
One famous dish is this soup buns. A good soup buns has perfect skin (handmade on the spot - not too thick, not too thin); a good soup buns should have just enough meat soaked in yummy little soup inside the buns. When you bit into it, if not skillfully, the soup will burst out all over your face, shirt, and the table.
Most Chinese restaurants offer steamed soup buns. But they offer frozen ones with no soup inside. Or they could be over-steams with yikey slimy skins and no soup. Dan (the invisible husband most of you never met) and I searched all over; and we finally found:

Yes, I played hookie (finally) with my best eating buddy, Linda.
We finally made it to Chinatown after 2 years to dim sum.
Thank you, Golden Bridge (50 Bowery, 2nd FL, 212-227-8813) for giving us an amazing and relaxing dim sum break between working and shopping too much :D This place opens daily from 8 am. The food was freshly made on site; and it’s not very crowded during weekday. If you go on weekend, make sure you sit down 11:20 am or early for party more than 1.
