A rare Sunday afternoon break with Eleanor ~
The coffee was good and strong ~
The place is quiet ~
It’s very Manhattan Greenwich Village /West Village ~
Good new hiding spot ~
MoMo Caffe, 152 West 10th Street
Thank you, my dear little sis Patty, for a lovely birthday lunch!
This picky sister me wants something yummy in a quiet location so we can do our girl chat.
This was a perfect lunch - quiet but cool spot with yummy food in small portions.
The lunch was $26 prefix to choose 2 of the following, appetizer, entree, or salad. I had Lemon White Wine Sword Fish Cappaccio and Grilled Veal Fillet + cappuccino ~ yum yum yum

Can’t believe I never wrote about Popover Cafe all these years living in Upper West Side and eating these Popovers …
Love getting there early Saturday morning (do get there before 11:30 am if you can or do expect wait) when it’s still quiet; get iced tea; and just a fresh Popover (served with fresh strawberry butter, of course). Dan loves the Special Scramble (in pic) - Three eggs scrambled with smoked norwegian salmon, cream cheese & chives & a popover with fresh orange juice. YUM YUM YUM.
Popover Cafe, 551 Amsterdam Avenue (off West 87th Street)
The seafood birthday meal for Bea here last night was simply fabulous. It was exactly what we are looking for - fresh, simply, and perfectly cooked.
Shrimp cocktail (in pic) + Fried Oyster for appetizer; Pan Seared Halibut + 1 1/2 Lb Boiled Lobster (in pic) for entrees; Strawberry Rhubar Pie + (Dark) Chocolate mousse + Sundae for desserts.
We all are fortunate enough to eat out often in fancy restaurants. However, we all felt that simply dinner like this is the bestest any night. Cheers to a good life in an amazing city ~
Pearl Oyster Bar, 18 Cornelia St, no reservation

It is such an amazing meal. It was easy, tasty, simple, and just good. (Oh, and Yoko and her son was there dinner too …) We walked by Robataya in Tokyo and regretted not tasting, so happy they came to NYC!
Cannot tell you how many dishes we had, because we cannot even keep track ourselves: grilled sea urchin, grilled squid, grilled lamb chop, the best grilled chicken meatball, amazing amazing amazing …
Robataya NY, 231 East 9th Street, 212.979.9674 (reservation strongly recommended, even Sunday night)
This was such a good Mother’s Day lunch! Very yummy and very luxury food. Thank you, Sue. This restaurant is located inside Queens Crossing Center in Flushing; it is the pricier restaurant. However, it offers a creative menu, spacious seating, and yummy food. What can one ask for more?
We decided against Mother’s Day set lunch (very blah looking menu) and started with Taro Crusted Shrimp Ball (in pic), Smoked Salmon Crab Cakes (in pic), Banana Leave Wrapped Chillean Sea Bass (in pic), Mulan Aged Rib Eye Steak, and Pea Shoot with Scallops. Yum Yum Yum.
The service could be improved a bit more; but it could also be the Mother’s Day effect.

A very cold evening, after a long long day, Susanna suggested the best comfort meal for the day at Hung-Ry. What a good way to end that cold and wet day!!!
We shared Composed seasonal vegetables: beets, carrots, pickled turnips (in pic); I had Duck breast, leg, gizzard, bush beans, szechuan, kumquat Noodle Soups ; and Susanna had Pork belly, shoulder, wood ear mushrooms, radishes Noodle Soups.
You can really taste the quality of the hand-pulled noodles and all ingridients in the food. The food is simple, but taste so amazing! Who’s joining me to go back next time?
Hung-Ry, 55 Bond Street, 212.677.4864, reservation is strongly suggested even if it’s 2 people in the party.
What a good day! Warm, 70’s, sunny with breeze. Dan and I went to late lunch at Miss Favela.
Yum Yum Yum, Fried Yuca is matched with perfect spicy dip, the Codfish Corquette is my love, the Brazilian Sausage is perfectly spiced (in pic), and the pork shoulder sandwich made us lick our fingers clean. Ah, can’t forget to mention, Dan loved their Capriana (classic) and I loved their Limonade (in pic, guess which is which?! XDDD)
There was no live music today, bummer. But it was as perfect as it can be. If you visit Williamsburg, make sure you check Miss Favela out.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for such a wonderful dinner idea!!!
DoSirak offers Korean home style food with a cozy place with probably 8 tables. Everything we ordered was simply and delicious. The food there really offers a feel of home; portions are perfect; and the service was super friendly. We had chive and scallion pancake (in pic), boiled veggie and pork mandu (in pic), spicy rice noodle and fish cake (in pic) and kimchi w/spicy pork over organic tofu. Yes, we are proud to say that our dishes took over 2 tables!!! Price is also amazingly reasonable as well. Love it Love it!
DoSirak, 30 E 13th St (between University Pl and 5th Ave)
Enter the nice lobby, follow the crowd, follow the nice staff’s direction, go into the strange dark curtains with a neon burger sign hanging over at the dark corner … there it is. The wonderful smell of burgers in the Burger Joint! The burgers are good, fries are good; I was told to forget about the brownies, never made it that far myself. What I like is the burger is not super sized; I like to finish my meal comfortablly.
Burger Joint, Le Parker Meridien Hotel 119 W 56th St, cash only, go in odd hours or it’s a LONG wait.
Riki has been a hidden treasure that I am not sure if I want to expose. heheee~ but it warmed my stomach over and over with the simpliest and tastest traditional Japanese yakitori dishes I love. The place is tiny, a dive; it’s nothing pretty and fancy. But it’s homey. I love their chicken balls and daikon.
Riki, 250 East 52nd Street, 212.826.4110 (have a small semi-private room for large party, need reservation)
